description

Abigail and Joshua Stanley lived in the Centre Community of southern Guilford County where their home served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. They also owned a wagon with a secret compartment. Legend says that the wagon was used to ferry African Americans to free states during the mid 1800s. This article originally appeared in the Fall 2008 Tar Heel Junior Historian Magazine.
