Analyzing an Artifact: What in the World is a Hogshead?
|
When you visit a historic site or a museum you may encounter artifacts that you can’t readily identify. In this article, the assistant site manager at Duke Homestead Historic Site discusses one such artifact in that site’s possession, a large hogshead (which was a type of barrel generally used to store tobacco).
This article originally appeared in the Spring 2009 Tar Heel Junior Historian Magazine.
