A Golden Anniversary for the Blue Ridge Parkway

The demanding work on the Blue Ridge Parkway began in the 1930s under the direction of the Public Works Administration (a New Deal agency). This project provided work for thousands of unemployed North Carolinians during the Great Depression and resulted in a roadway that highlighted the scenic North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains.
