With a degree in fine arts from Duke University and a private pilot's license, North Carolinian Katherine Lee Harris Adams took to the skies with the Women's Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) during World War II. Test-flying repaired aircraft and transporting planes between bases, Kate Adams proudly served her country. This article appeared in the Fall 2003 issue of Tar Heel Junior Historian magazine.
